The passing year, and the year to come

The future is the hardest thing to predict, and the coming year is looking particularly unpredictable.
But people are resilient, and we'll learn something about the resilience of democratic institutions: I'm cautiously optimistic.

In the past year, I noted the passing of game theorists Tom Schelling, Reinhard Selten, Howard Raiffa, Jim Friedman, and Lloyd Shapley (here, and here, and here, and here), as well as my good friend the eminent scholar of organizations Keith Murnighan who helped set me on the path of experimental economics, and transplant immunology pioneer Paul Terasaki.
