I continue to object to the language. No state would prevent a church from marrying two people of the same sex; it is allowed in every state. It is recognized by some states.

(I have a female friend who married another woman in a civil ceremony, and her father was very concerned that she would be arrested because he correctly interpreted the widespread incorrect reports. He's an immigrant, which may have facilitated the confusion.)
